SourceHacks is a 24 hour online, theme free hackathon where builders from around the world come together to design, code, and launch projects from scratch. Whether you are a developer, designer, entrepreneur, or first time hacker, this is your chance to build something you are proud of, meet other ambitious creators, and compete for prizes.
Throughout the event, participants will have access to mentors, workshops, sponsor challenges, and experienced judges before presenting their projects at the final showcase.

Theme
There is no theme. Build anything, from AI applications and developer tools to mobile apps, games, hardware, or startup ideas. We encourage projects that are creative, technically impressive, and solve meaningful problems.

Requirements
To be considered for judging, every team must submit the following before the deadline:

A completed Devpost submission.

A GitHub repository for your project.

A project description that explains what you built and why.

A demo video between two and five minutes long.
Your project should be built primarily during the 24-hour event. You are welcome to use existing frameworks, APIs, libraries, and open source software, but the main idea and implementation should be completed during SourceHacks. You are allowed to use AI.
If your project is deployed, include a live link. Installation instructions and documentation are encouraged if judges need them to run your project.
Prizes
1st Place
Take home the grand prize of $250 USD (split amongst the winning team) and earn the title of SourceHacks Champion. Awarded to the team that demonstrates the strongest combination of innovation, technical excellence, impact, and presentation.
2nd Place
Recognized for delivering an outstanding project that impressed the judges with its creativity and execution. Second-place winners will receive an official SourceHacks Honorable Mention Certificate celebrating their achievement.
3rd Place
Awarded to a team whose project stood out for its quality, originality, and potential. Third-place winners will receive an official SourceHacks Honorable Mention Certificate in recognition of their accomplishment.

Judging Criteria

Innovation
Teams should present a novel idea or apply existing technology in a creative and meaningful way. Judges will evaluate originality, technical ambition, and how effectively the solution stands out from existing alternatives. -
Technical Excellence
Projects should demonstrate strong engineering, thoughtful architecture, and quality implementation. Judges will consider code quality, technical difficulty, and the effective use of technologies and APIs. -
Impact
The solution should address a real problem and create meaningful value for its intended users. Judges will evaluate the significance of the problem, potential reach, and overall usefulness of the project. -
Design & User Experience
A great project should be intuitive, polished, and enjoyable to use. Judges will assess interface design, usability, accessibility, and the overall user journey. -
Presentation & Execution
Teams should clearly communicate their vision, demonstrate their product confidently, and explain their technical decisions. Judges will evaluate the quality of the demo, storytelling, and the team's ability to answer questions effectively.
